How a Cut Goes

No rushing, no guessing. Here's what forty minutes with us actually looks like.

1

The consultation

Before anything is switched on, your barber asks what you want, looks at how your hair actually grows, and tells you honestly whether the photo on your phone will work on your head. Two minutes here saves the whole cut.

2

Bulk and shape

The overall length comes off first — usually scissor work on top and clipper work through the sides — establishing the shape before any detail happens.

3

The blend

This is the part that separates a good cut from a cheap one. Working through guard lengths so there's no visible line where one length becomes the next. It's slow on purpose.

4

Detail and line-up

Neckline, around the ears, and the hairline squared off with a straight razor. Hot towel first so the skin is ready.

5

Style and show

Product matched to your hair type, styled the way you'll actually wear it — and we'll show you how to do it yourself at home. Mirror check at the back before you're out of the chair.

Cheat Sheet

Barber Language

The handful of words that cause the most confusion, spelled out properly.

Guard numbersClipper attachments. #1 is 1/8", #2 is 1/4", #4 is 1/2" — every number up adds another 1/8 inch.
Taper vs. fadeA taper is a gradual shortening at the neckline and sideburns only. A fade takes the whole side up through the lengths. Every fade is a taper; not every taper is a fade.
Off the topHow much length is removed up top, usually in inches or fingers — not a guard number.
Line-up / edge-upSquaring the hairline at the forehead and temples with a razor or trimmer.
Blocked, rounded or tapered napeThe three ways to finish your neckline. Blocked is a straight line, rounded is curved, tapered fades into the skin and grows out cleanest.
Texturize / point cutRemoving weight without removing length, so thick hair sits down and fine hair looks fuller.
Timing

How Often to Come Back

  • Skin fade or high fade1–2 weeks
  • Mid or low fade2–3 weeks
  • Taper or classic short cut3–4 weeks
  • Textured crop or French crop4–5 weeks
  • Mid-length, flow or grown-out6–8 weeks
  • Beard shape-up2–3 weeks

The tighter the fade, the faster it grows out of shape — that's just how skin-close blends work.
